The holy cave of Amarnath is situated in Jammu & Kashmir, which is also known as the heaven or the paradise on this earth. Amarnath Cave is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for the Hindu Pilgrims. The pilgrims have to travel at an altitude of 3880 meters to reach the Pindi of Lord Shiva (Shrine). Lord Shiva is one of the three major Gods apart from Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. The other name of Lord Shiva is Mahadeva and bhole baba. He is also known as the destroyer. The Shivalingam forms naturally in the cave every year and it is open for darshan to every pilgrim. It is the most important pilgrimage centre of Chotta Chardham Yatra.

Amarnath Yatra is the holy pilgrimage tour in India, which is soulfully dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Bholenath. It is the good news for the Shiva devotees that this year the annual Amarnath Yatra will commence on June 28 and will continue till 10th August. The Yatra will be continued for 44 days. 7,500 pilgrims will be allowed every day for the Lord Shiva Lingam darshan, which will exclude the pilgrims traveling by the chopper/helicopter. Pilgrims should provide their cleared medical certificate while registration, which will start from 1st March 2014. How to reachThe route to Amarnath is not very easy; one has to pass through several valleys and rough terrains to reach these caves. To reach Amarnath, the pilgrim first has to travel to Pahalgam by surface and then has to trek 24Km to reach the cave. One can also board the chopper from the Pahalgam Helipad or hire a pony to reach the holy caves.
- Alcohol & smoking is strictly prohibited.
- Chopper is advisable for the old age pilgrims and children as the route is not very easy.
- Don’t try shortcuts, use the correct way as instructed to reach the holy caves.
- Carry lots of woolen clothes as the temperature may also fall till -5 degrees.
- Try carrying dry fruits, water and chocolates etc.
- Do not stop at such places, which are marked as dangerous.
